Canucks faced off against the Red Wings Sunday night in the aftermath of the huge Friday night they had in Dallas. The Red Wings started off with some pressure with a shot by Chariot that was stopped. Boeser came in on a partial break, but he was stopped by Alex Lyon. A little later Garland had a chance that was stopped. The Canucks new look line with Drew O’Conner were having a good shift when Keifer Sherwood made a pass to the blueline to the rookie Pettersson who put a shot on goal that was tipped in by Puis Suter for his fourteenth of the season giving the young Pettersson his first NHL point. The Canucks kept up the pressure with chances from Myers and Chytil. That would be ended shortly when Debrincat came in on a 3 on 1 and fired on past Lankinen for his twenty-second of the year to tie the game. Canucks kept up the pressure for the rest of the period with good chances but were unable to capitalize. Moritz Seider hit a post late in the first on a chance set up by Tarasenko. The first period ended at a 1-1 tie.

Six minutes into the second Ben Chariot was set up at the blueline with a nice pass from Berggren and he was able to wrist it home for his third of the season to take a 2-1 lead. Hoglander had a great wraparound chance that was stopped. Chytil and Garland combined for two great chances that they couldn’t put home. To end the period Patrick Kane came down on a partial break and was stopped by Kevin Lankinen. An uneventful second period but the Red Wings came out with a 2-1 lead.

Hronek had a blast 4 minutes in that came out for a rebound, but Lyon was able to cover up. Pettersson came in with his line and made a great pass to Boeser who tried to find DeBrusk in front but it missed and bounced back to the blue line where Marcus Pettersson blasted a slapshot that was stopped and covered by Alex Lyon. Later in the period Garland picked up a pass and broke into the Red Wings zone, he got checked but the puck sneaked over to Chytil who went around the Detroit players and put it under the blocker over the pad for his twelfth of the season and his first as a Canucks in his first game as one. Later DeBrusk flicked a puck that was picked up by Pettersson, he entered the zone with Boeser and Hoglander. He Sauced the puck over to Hogalnder who sent it back across to Boeser in front, but Lyon came across to make a spectacular save. With three minutes left Holl had a chance to take the lead with a wide-open net but missed and the game would end up needing some good old overtime.

The Canucks started with the puck in overtime and were able to hold it for forty-five seconds until Coner Garland sent the puck around the Red Wings net and it was picked up by Detroit sending them on a 3 on 2 that turns into a 2 on 1 where Lankinen makes a beautiful save on Larkin. The Red Wings would maintain possession for a minute and thirty seconds before losing it as a combination on Petterssons strip the puck from them. Sending Elias Pettersson on a break with Boeser where Pettersson would miss the net giving the Red Wings the puck. They would cycle till the two-minute mark where Myers would intercept a pass, the Canucks would keep control so they can get a change. Hronek sent Garland in on a rush, but his shot was stopped by Lyon. Tarasenko would be sent in on a rush and shoot one of the right pad of Lankinen sending Garland and Chytil the other way, they would move around the Detroit zone setting up Garland in the slot who would feed Chytil but he couldn’t get the shot off and the Red Wings would come back with number as Debrincat and Raymond would do a give and go ending in Debrincat scoring and ending the game in overtime and continuing their perfect road trip.
