The Canucks face the Canadiens on the first of a back to back. They are still without Quinn Hughes and they are looking for some big points to push for that playoff spot. The game would start with Cole Caufield sending Nick Suzuki on a break and he would put it in on the backhand for his Twentieth of the year to take an early 1-0 lead. Later Lekkermakki would get set up by Chytil but he would get stopped by Montembeault. He would stop another one on a wrap around chance. Play would go back and forth with both teams looking for chances until Josh Andersson would send a great pass to Dvorak but he wouldn’t handle it coming back the other way Suter would hit the post. Later Forbort would shoot one on goal and Pettersson misses the tip and Montembeault would make the save. Later Joshua would do a wrap around that would hit the post and stay out. Almost right away Slavkovsky would come in and snipe a beautiful shot that would beat Lankinen for his twelfth of the year to take a 2-0 lead. Play would go back and forth with Pettersson making a great ove to get a lane to clear the puck and the Habs would get a chance but it would get called for a hand pass. Later Myers would make a good hit on Suzuki and the Canucks would come back and the puck would be put on goal but they couldn’t capitalize and Chytil would come down a bit after but get stopped on the backhand. Later Chytil would shoot one on goal and it would be stopped and the rebound wouldn’t be found by O’Conner. Later Garland would send one in front and Joshua would get another chance but it would be stopped. They would continue with good chances but wouldn’t find the back on the net. The Joshua chance would be so close as it would be just on the line. Later Andersson would be caught offside but didn’t hear the whistle and would put a backhand on goal that DeBrusk would take exception to as he should. The Canucks would get good zone time but would get caught deep and Evans would get a good chance that would be stopped by Lankinen. The Canucks would get good zone time but the period would end at a 2-0 Montreal lead. Other than being down the Canucks had a good period they just need some puck luck and they can come back.

The second would start with Hoglander getting a good chance that Montembeault would save and the Habs would come back with a good chance that Lankinen would hold. Pettersson would make some moves to bring the puck in and they would set up and set Myers for a couple of chances that wouldn’t go in. The Canucks would go in on a rush but a penalty would be called on Marcus Pettersson for slashing behind the play. Off a Lankinen save the Canucks would clear early. The Habs would get caught offside after a good play from Suter and Blueger brought the puck out. After a close chance for O’Conner to go for a bad pass Slafkovsky would takedown Sherwood and get called for interference making it 4 on 4 for thirty seconds. Late in the 4 on 4 Chytil would make a nice play to set the Canucks up for the powerplay but the Habs would clear after a bad pass. Later Garland would make a good pass for a redirect but it would be stopped by Montembeault. Off the draw the puck would leave the zone and DeBrusk would get a shot on the reentry and the powerplay would end. Later the Habs would come back on a regroup stretch pass sending Caufield and Suzuki and they would make a great play to extend the lead with Caulfields thirty second of the year. Play would continue until Josh Andersson would get called for interference, sending the Canucks to their second powerplay of the game. The Habs would clear right away and the two more times and they would get a chance but it would be stopped. The horrible powerplay would continue with them finally setting up with less than ten seconds left and Sherwood would get a good chance set up by Suter but it would stay out. Later Blueger would make a great play lifting a stick to set up Joshua for a chance that would be blocked by Hudson. Xhakaj would get two shots from the point one would miss the net and the second would be stopped by Lankinen. After a Caufield chance D Petey would get a chance and off the blocker save it would go to Elias Pettersson that would get a chance that would be stopped. Play would go back and forth until Mancini would get a screened shot on goal that would be stopped. Later the Habs would make good passes ending in a Struble shot getting stopped by Lankinen. Later Newhook would spin one on goal that would be stopped and pop out to Gallagher who would be stropped by Lankinen then he would go to push Lankinen and that would be taken exception to. Play would go until the end of the period and the Habs would come out with a 3-0 lead. The Canucks are getting chances they just can’t finish and now they need a miracle to tie the game in the third.

The Third would start with back and forth play until the puck would go to the blueline and a pass over to Hronek and he would fire on post and in for his fourth of the year to get the Canucks on the board. Conor Garland would make a great play defensively to intercept a pass. Later the Canucks would get the puck in the Habs zone and Pettersson would be tripped and there wouldn’t be a call. Later Garland would get a quick shot that would be stopped by Montembeault. Cole Caufield would get a shot that Lankinen would stop with the blocker. Lane Hutson would come down and get a shot on goal that Lankinen would stop. Later on a good cycle the puck would come back to Hronek and a shot on goal would come out for Suter on the rebound that would miss the net and would draw a slashing call on the Habs sending the Canucks to the powerplay. The powerplay would start with a chance for Boeser that would go wide they would regroup and the puck would end up to Pettersson after he switched sides and he shoots a perfect shot past Montembeault for his thirteenth of the year to cut the lead to one. Play would continue until a shot from the point would be deflected on goal that would be stopped. Both teams would go back and forth with rushes for a bit until Blueger would make a good hit on Armia but the Canadiens would set up in the Canucks zone and there would be a chance but D Petey would hit Caufield after it and Lankinen would cover the puck. Off the draw the Canucks would come in on a rush but the Habs would clear the Canucks would make three entries before setting up with the empty net. They would get a chance but the Habs would ice it and the Cancusk would take a timeout to try and set up a chance to tie the game. Blank would win the draw and they would set up and Pettersdson would get a shot and the would get a couple of rebounds and the Habs would clear. The entry would bounce to Montembeault and he would cover. Canucks would win the draw but a shot from Hronek would hit Boeser and the Habs would clear and when they tired to reenter Mathesoin would shoot toward the empty net and would put it in for his of the year and the Canucks would fall 4-2 to the Canadiens and stay out of the final playoff spot in a game where they played well but couldn’t beat Montembeault as he had a great game.
