Canucks face Utah in the second game of the back to back after falling 3-1 to Vegas. Silovs would get his first start since November 27th and Victor Mancini would make his Canucks debut 23 days after being traded from the Rangers. The game would start with good pace and would go without a whistle until Myers would take a penalty sending Utah to the powerplay early. Utah’s powerplay looked amazing cycling the puck with confidence and they had a couple of chances but Silovs would stop them all and the Canucks would kill it off. Play would go on with very fast pace and only two whistles during this time Jake DeBrusk chance that was tipped away from him Play would continue like that until an icing would break the pace. A bit later there would be a Utah penalty that was not a trip but was called. The Canucks power play would start out not great but they would get in and there would be a nice save for Vejmelka. Canucks power play would get killed off and play would go back to breakneck pace. Later Hoglander would set up Chytil for a one-tee that would be stopped by Vejmelka. Utah would get a powerplay again and they would look good again. Keller would shoot for a tip for Schmaltz that Silovs saved. Schmaltz would have a shot blocked and the Canucks would clear and kill the penalty off. Later thought Marcus Pettersson gets called for playing with a broken stick. Yet again Utah’s powerplay would look good and they would have a great chance on a shot from the line from Durzi that Silovs saves then gets the rebound and covers it. Play would continue until the end of the period ending in a 0-0 tie. If the Canucks didn’t take 3 penalties it would be a better period with having more 5 on 5 so if they don’t take as many penalties they should have a better period.

Play would start back and forth for a minute until Logan Cooley would get called for hooking, sending the Canucks to the powerplay. Canucks would have to regroup right away and get in the zone they would get it back to Myers then pass to Suter, to the side of the net for Pettersson and cross crease to DeBrusk and he would score for his Twenty First of the year to take a 1-0 lead. Utah would come back right away and get some chances but Silovs would seal the net. Later Sergachev would get a shot from the point that would be stopped and the rebound would be saved as well. Off the ensuing draw Marino would get a shot from the point that would be tipped by Logan Cooley for his sixteenth of the year to tie the game. Play would go back and forth with not many chances until Crouse would get sent on a breakaway of a beautiful pass but Silovs would make a great save to keep the game tied. Play would continue to go back and forth for a bit with no big chances but play continued to be fast paced and have little to no whistles. Later Utah would enter the zone and pass it back for a big slapshot that Silovs would save. Right off the draw Logan Cooley would get called for interference sending the Canucks to the powerplay. Canucks powerplay would struggle to set up and when they finally did it was stolen off a bad pass and Utah would come back on a 2 on 1 but Silovs would stop Hayton after a nice pass from Mcbain. Canucks would set up for the final bit of the powerplay but it would be killed off. Right after Cooley would have a chance but he’d miss the net. Play would continue to be back and forth until Marcus Pettersson would get a good shot on goal that would be steered aside. Play would go until the end of the period with nothing of note and ending in a 1-1 tie. Better period for the Canucks and they have a good chance of winning if they keep it up.

The third would start with the Canucks in control for a bit until Utah would get a partial break that would be passed off and defended well by Forbort and come out to the blueline where there would be a big shot that would be stopped by Silovs and in the scrum in the slot Crouse would trip Joshua sending the Canucks to the powerplay. On the powerplay the Canucks would cycle around and finally get the puck to Chytil in the slot but his shot would be blocked and covered by Vejmelka. The Canucks would hold off the draw but a pass from Pettersson to Hoglander would be tipped out of play. Utah killed off the penalty and off getting the puck down DeBrusk hit Kerfoot and then Crouse would take exception to it and they would be both taken off for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Canucks would hold for a lot of the start of the 4 on 4 and would get a chance from Myers that would miss the net. Utah would take over for a bit but the Canucks would get it back and control possession for the rest of the 4 on 4 but nothing would come of it. Hronek would get a good chance that would be stopped and Utah would come back and settle in the zone. At the tail end of Utah zone time they would have a shot from the point that would be deflected and Silovs would make a great save on it to keep the game tied. Later Pettersson would be sent on a break but missed the net. Play would continue with Blueger getting a chance on a rush. Off the draw Josh Doan would catch Marcus Pettersson flat footed and be on a breakaway, he would try to go five hole but Silovs would keep it out. Later Carcone would come in and draw a holding call sending Utah to the powerplay. Hromek would kill the first 15 seconds with a good play off the draw but Utah would come back and Schmaltz would have a good chance but Silovs would make the save. After a clearance the puck would go to Schmaltz at the line and he would shoot it to Guenthers stick who would tip it in for his twenty first of the year to take a 2-1 lead. Play would continue with back and forth until Hayton would come down on a Partial break and would be stopped by Silovs. A little after Chytil would throw it on goal but nothing would come of it. Later Suter would come in and put it on goal and Vejmalka would cover for a whistle. Canucks would pull the goalie and Utah would try for the empty net but miss for an icing. Off the draw an shot for the Canucks net would hit the ref for a whistle. After a couple of clears and a chance for Boeser the game would end with the Canucks falling 2-1 to Utah making it to straight losses coming out of the Four Nations break. They need to Finish as they’ve had great games but can’t score. Next game is against the Kings on Wednesday.
