Canucks vs Islanders Game Review 26/03/2025

The Canucks face off against former captain Bo Horvat and the New York Islanders in another must win game for both teams as the Canucks are still five points back of the blues but with two games in hand still. The Canucks are still without Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander as they are in Vancouver and will be gone for the road trip. The Game would start with Myers shooting a puck wide and it bouncing to O’Conner in front but he’d fan on the shot. The Islanders would come down and Horvat would get a great chance and Demko would match it with an amazing save. Linus Karlsson would get a small chance that would stay out. Joshua would put it in front and it would be stopped. Play would go back and forth for a bit until the Canucks would make a great breakout resulting in Joshua having a good rush and he’d drive the net but wouldn’t get it on goal. Later Noah Dobson would skate in nicely and try to set up Palmeri for a chance but it wouldn’t get to him. Off a draw the Canucks would set up in the Isles zone and they would get a chance as Hronek would throw it in front and Karlsson would almost have a chance. The Isles would come back and would get close to getting goals but the Canucks defence and Demko would stop them. Play would continue until Dobson would cut around the net and try to set up another player but it would go past them. Later off a draw Dunclair would put one on and Demko would make a save with his toe. Later Linus Karlsson would make a great pass to D Petey would miss the net and then the Isles would come back and Demko would make another great save on Bo Horvat. Later Dunclair would get another chance and Demko would make a great save AGAIN and I love it. Tony Deangelo would throw a pass in front but it wouldn’t be tipped in. Later Myers would put one in front and it would bounce to Suter and his shot would be blocked. After a Lengthy board battle Hughes would get the puck and protect the puck nicely but would eventually lose it and then Lee would steal the puck a little after and get a chance that Demko would stop. Lekkermakki would make a strong move to the middle and Sorokin would help put it wide. Boeser would cut to the net and try to put it short side but Sorokin would make the save and the period would end in a scoreless tie. Not that great of a period for the Canucks it could be like 3-0 Islander if it weren’t for Demko.

The second would start with a long stretch pass finding Linus Karlsson and he would miss the net. Later the Cancks wouldenter and the puck would find its way to the point and Hughes would shoot one on goals and Keifer Sherwood would tip it home for his sixteenth of the year to take a 1-0 lead. Boeser would get a shot later that Sorokin would stop.Canucks would get a chance shortly after that would stay out. Later the Islander would take a tripping penalty and the Canucks would go to their first powerplay of the game. The powerplay would start with the Canucks chasing the puck out but they would come back with DeBrusk’s shot causing trouble for Sorokin but he would cover it. Off the draw the Isles would clear the Canucks would come back but it would be broken up and the Isles would come back shorthanded and Cizikas would put it home for his sixth of the year to tie the game. Right after Palmeri would get a chance that would hit the crossbar. Galend would get a shot and it would ring around after and it would end up on Horvat’s stick but he wouldn’t have momentum and would settle to wait but send the puck back to his zone. After Suter almost set up DeBrusk for a breakaway they would get it to Hughes who would get a shot that Sorokin would have trouble with but the Isles would ice the puck. The Isles would set up in the Canucks zine and after a shot on goal the rebound would pop out and Deangelo would put it home for his third of the year to take a 2-1 lead. Right away after the goal the Islanders would come in and Holmstrom would almost have a goal but the pass would make him go behind the net and he would try to bank it off Demko's skate and it would stay out. After a shot from Tsyplakov was blocked Dobson would throw one in front but no one was there. The Islanders would press again with a couple of chances that Demko would keep out. The Cnaucks would come back on a 2 on 2 and Garland would spin and put a backhand on goal that Sorokin would make the save. After Horvat would try to set up Palmeri back door the Isles would get a shot that Demko would save. The Isles would come down later and Lee’s backhand would get stopped by Demko. The Canucks would come back off the draw and after a scramble in front the puck would go to Marcus Pettersson and the shot would get tipped by Raty and in for his third of the year to tie the game 2-2. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Hronek’s stick would break and Dunclair would take advantage and try to get it in but Demko would keep it out. The Canucks would come back on a 2 on 1 and Linus Karlsson’s shot would go off Sorokin’s arm and out of play. Canucks would apply good pressure and would get some chances that would stay out until the Isles would pressure but the Canucks would get it back down and after waiting for a chance rush into the Isles zone but it would be broken up they would come back and the puck would get out but Forbort would join the rush and after getting a pass from DeBrusk he would fire it past Sorokin for his second of the year to retake the lead. The Isles would get a chance but the period would end in a 3-2 Canucks lead. Nto the best period but the lead makes up for it. I think they were slow at the start but they heated up and had good momentum going into the third.

For the third I switched to highlights because I had to make supper and go out for an errand. The Third would start with Garland finding Blueger in front and he’d put it home post and in for his eighth of the year to extend the lead to 4-2. Later on the islanders powerplay Dobson would get a tip chance that would miss the net. The Canucks would come back with Sherwood getting a tipped shot that Sorokin would stop. Later the Isles would enter the Canucks zone and Engvall would hit the post. The Canucks would take the lead to the end with Sherwood picking up the Empty netter for his seventeenth of the year and the Canucks would take this game 5-2 and get two needed points on this road trip again.
