Canucks vs Devils Game Review 24/03/2025

The Canucks face off against the New Jersey Devils after taking back to back losses looking to close the gap between them and the Blues with the 2 games in hand they have on them. Demko would make his long awaited return since he left the game on February 8th against the leafs. The Canucks would be without Pettersson and Hoglander who both suffered injuries in the previous game against the Rangers. The game would start with the Devils getting attack time and getting a shot on goal from Bratt from afar that would be stopped by Demko. The Devils would come back and get a shot on goal by Paul Cotter that would stay out. Nico Hicsher would get a shot that would miss the net. The Canucks would finally get zone time and would get a shot from Quinn Hughes that would be gloved by Markstrom. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Brendan Dillion would get a shot from the point through traffic that Demko would swallow up. The Canucks would come back off the draw with Hughes doing his thing and getting it in front to Raty and his shot would be stopped by Markstrom. Not long after Marcus Pettersson would skate close to the goal line and find Suter in the slot and he would one tee it past Markstrom for his twenty first of the year to take a 1-0 lead. Later Sherwood would get the puck at the half boards and he’d find Hronek for a shot that Markstrom would stop. The Devils would come back with a tipped shot that Demko would handle. Later on that shift Kovacevic would take a high sticking penalty sending the Canucks to their first powerplay of the game. The powerplay would start with the Canucks doing the usual regroup as the Devils clear. They would get it down again and the Canucks would have to come back. The Devils would get it out again and the CAnucks would fail to enter and the Devils would clear again. After another clear for the Devils the Canucks would get a chance as Hughes would make a good pass to Garland that would be stopped. The Devils would get it out and after the Canucks failed to set up the powerplay would end and the Devils would get a shot on goal. The game would go back and forth for a bit until The Devils would get a shot on goal that Demko would handle. Later Raty would send the puck in front to Sherwood but he wouldn’t get a good shot off and it would go wide. The Devils would make one last push but the Canucks would hold and the period would end with a 1-0 Canucks lead. The Canucks had a good period 5 on 5 but that powerplay was atrocious and needs to be better but getting out of it with a 1–0 lead is good.

The Second would start with the Canucks getting in and DeBrusk getting a shot on goal. The Devils would regroup and get down and Bratt would skate in and get a good shot on goal that Demko would handle. The Canucks would come back and Lekkermakki would send a weak shot on goal that Markstrom would cover. Play would continue for a bit until Quinn Hughes would get a shot on goal from the weak side that would be stopped by Markstrom. Sherwood would throw a nice hit on Dumoulin. Later Garland would streak in with room and his shot would miss the net the Canucks would get called for too many men after sending the Devils to their first powerplay of the game. They would set up and get a shot on goal that Demko would stop. They would get another one and Demko would save that one too. After a board battle the puck would find Hischer and his shot would get stopped by Demko as well. The Devils would set up on the draw and Meier’s shot would get deflected and the Canucks would clear. The Devils would get back but the Canucks would get it out again and once more after that and the powerplay would end. The Canucks would come back as DeBrusk would send one in front and Aman would get a couple of chances but Markstrom would keep it out. Later the Canucks would come back and would get multiple chances but Markstrom would keep it out. The Devils would come down and Mercer’s shot would miss the net and the Blueger would get called for tripping sending the Devils to their second powerplay of the game. The Devils would set up and get two chances that Demko would hold and the Canucks would clear. The Devils would come back and get the puck to the net and after a couple of whacks Timo Meier would put it five hole on Demko for his twenty first of the year to tie the game. The Devils would come back after the goal with them getting a huge chance but the traffic would stop it from going in and the Canucks would come back with Hughes passing to Suter who would get a shot off that Markstrom would snag with the glove. Later Meier would skate in and send the puck in front but it would go to the blueline and the Devils would stay in the zone and the puck would go back to Meier who’s shot would get stopped by Demko. After the Devils had some zone time the Canucks would come back with a couple of shifts in the offensive zone with their only chance being a long Garland shot that would be blocked. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Quinn Hughes would make some shifty moves and get a shot on goal that Markstrom would stop. Off the draw Myers would send on a goal that would go bar down but out and the game would remain 1-1. And that’s how the period would end and Sherwood would start some fun stuff after the buzzer. No more penalties for the Canucks please if we are to win this game it has to be 5 on 5 and they can’t let the Devils get another powerplay again.

The third would start with the Canucks coming out hot and Quinn Hughes would get a slapshot that would miss and it would go back to him and he’d skate around and get the puck in front and it would be covered. Play would go back and forth for a bit until the Devils would get a shot on goal that Demko would save. Canucks would come back right away and Lekkermakki would get a shot on goal that would be stopped. The Devils would come down with Haula getting a chance that would stay out. Canucks would come in with Garland getting a shot for a rebound that no one would get. The Devils would come in and get a huge chance with Mercer getting robbed by Demko. On a dump in, Kovacevic would get called for high sticking and send the Canucks to their second powerplay of the game. The Canucks would win the draw and set up and Boeser would get a shot that would hit the post. They would keep it in and cycle around and then their chance Boeser’s stick would break on the shot and they would still hold it in and a shot from Hronek would cause chaos in front but Markstrom would cover. The Devils would clear off the draw but the Canuckswould get back in and after a Hughes broken stick the powerplay would end. Aman would get a chance that would miss the net, Forbort would get one right after that would stay out. The Devils would come in and three chances would all be stopped by Demko. After another Demko save Myers would turn into the offensive demon he is and would set up Suter for a chance that would be stopped and he would get a good shot from the point that would stay out. The Devils would come back and a shot would come off the pad of Demko and after a missed net the puck would go right to Meier who would put it in for his twenty second of the year to take a 2-1 lead. After the Devils get that one though the Canucks would come back with Lekkermakki starting the play and the puck would go to Forbort who’s playing low and he’d find Lekkermakki and he would put it home for his third of the year to tie the game 45 seconds later. After some back and forth Neutral zone play the Devils would get a shot on goal that Demko would stop with the glove. Off the draw a shot from Dumoulin would find Haula in front and he would put the rebound home for his of the year to retake the lead now at 3-2. After the goal there would be some rough stuff and there would be incidental penalties for both teams. The 4 on 4 would start with the Canucks in control until Hronek would leave a pass for Hughes but there would be a Devil in the way.Canucks would get it back and Hughes would skate around drop it for Garland and his shot would be blocked and the Devils would control and they would get in the Canucks zone and a shot from Pesce would be stopped by Demko. Off the draw the 4 on 4 would end and the Devils would get a chance that Demko would save. Later Hronek would get a shot from the point that would be deflected but Markstrom would make the save. Play would go back and forth leaning more on the Canucks side but the Canucks would pull the goalie and set up in the o-zone Boeser would get two shots that wouldn’t get on goal and then Hughes would get a one timer that Markstrom would stop and cover. The Canucks would take a time out with 55 seconds left to try and set something up to tie the game. The Devils would win the draw but the Canucks would get it back and it would get to Hughes and he would shoot and DeBrusk would put home the rebound for his of the year to tie the game and send it to overtime. Not the best three periods for the Canucks and they NEED that extra point.

Overtime would start with the Devils controlling and after Luke Hughes would get blocked the Canucks would get it and Quinn Hughes would go in on a rush and his shot would be stopped by Markstrom with the blocker. The puck would go back and forth until the Devils would control and get a shot that Demko wouldn’t hold and the Canucks would get it back and Quinn Hughes would find Boeser with a long stretch pass and his shot would be stopped and as he tried to center it the Devils would get it and they would make a great play and Demko would make a better save to keep overtime going. The Canucks would control the draw and wouldn’t get any offence and after a Hronek shot he would get it and send it back. The Canucks would try to get down and the pass would miss Garland and the Devils would come back with Haula getting a shot that would be stopped by Demko. Off the draw the Devils would control and take it out of the zone they would break in and Hughes would defend well and get the puck back. The Canucks would control and Lekkermakki would have a chance to score but he’d miss the net and it would go to a shootout. 

The first shot for the Devils would be for Paul Cotter who would be stopped.

The first shot for the Canucks would be for Jake DeBrusk who would score.

The second shot for the Devils would be for Jesper Bratt who would score.

The second shot for the Canucks would be for Conor Garland who would miss with the help of Markstrom.

The third shot for the Devils would be for Timo Meier who would get stopped by Demko.

The third shot for the Canucks would be for Puis Suter who would get stopped by Markstrom.

The fourth shot for the Devils would be for Luke Hughes who would be stopped.

The fourth shot for the Canucks would be for Lekkermakki who would score.

Thank god we got the extra point, a huge win for us THANK YOU DEMKO.
