The Canucks start the back to back in LA facing the Kings. They are coming off two losses coming out of the break and are now out of a playoff spot. I was cooking supper during the first so I missed a bit of the slow play at the Start, but as we expect playing the Kings it was a very Back and forth start with a focus on defence and barely any offensive chance for both teams. The Canucks were rolling Different line combinations with having a 11 forward and 7 defenceman lineup and that seemed to be working well the players gelling well and each line felt effective. The space that LA was shutting down opened up with Conor Garland receiving a pass from sending him on a breakaway but Rittich would squeeze his arm and make the save. Play would continue at the same pace when Hoglander would skate in and cut through the slot and just when it seemed like he held on to the puck too long he would roof it on Rittich for his fifth of the year giving the Canucks a 1-0 lead. LA would get some chances but the combination of Lankinen making some good saves and a great defensive play by DeBrusk getting back on the back check and stopping a 3-2. Later the Canucks would get the puck into the zone and Conor garland would work the corners amazingly and get the puck out to Chytil for a chance that would be stopped by Rittich. Play would continue until the end of the period with the Canucks coming out on top in a great period for them.
Early in the second Marcus Pettersson would take a Hooking penalty, sending the Kings to the powerplay. The Canucks would start off hot on the penalty kill getting the puck down a couple times. The Kings would come back and get a chance but Lankinen would keep it out and the Canucks would kill the Penalty a little later. Hiughes would almost set up Elias Pettersson after a nice passing play with Marcus Pettersson. After the Kings would get some chances Tyler Myers would initiate offensive chaos mode and get two good chances that would be stopped. Later Laferierre would come in and get a shot off that would be stopped by Lankinen. Later off a draw Jake Debrusk would trip Danault sending the Kings to their second powerplay of the Period. The Kings would look good on this powerplay but the Canucks would be well positioned and get a deflection off a Fiala shot. LA would stay hot but won’t be able to find the net and the Canucks would kill the penalty again.Later the Kings would come down on a partial 2 on 1 and Huighes would make a great defensive play knocking down the pass in the air shutting it down. Later after getting shut down by Marcus Pettersson he trips him behind the play sending the Canucks to their first powerplay. It would start a little rocky for the Canucks with them not getting a good chance in the first half. But in the second half they would set up and Chytil would skate around the back of the net and find Garland in front of the net and he would score his fifthteenth of the year to take a 2-0 lead. The Kings would come down with fury and have great zone time for a bit but they wouldn’t get anything from it. Later Kevin Fiala would take a holding penalty off the draw sending the Canucks to the powerplay again. Hughes would start it off with his magic getting down low and sending it in front but it would be covered. After Chytil would fall the Kings came down on a rush but Lankinen would stop the Denault shot. Canucks would come back with Debrusk getting a shot that would be tipped out of play. Canucks would set up and get some good movement but nothing would come of it and the powerplay would end. The Kings would come back getting some chances but Lankinen would hold down the fort. Later Elias Pettersson would have his pocket pickled by Trevor Moore and he would send Foegele on a Breakaway they Lankinen would stop. The period would end a little later with the Canucks coming out with a great 2-0 lead. It’s been a great game so far for the Canucks.
The third would start with LA getting most of the zone time and getting a well needed push to tie the game and it would continue that way through the first five minutes but the Kings wouldn’t be able to score in that time. The Kings would continue to push and the Canucks would shut them down and keep the score 2-0. Nine minutes in after a good play from Joshua to keep the Kings in their half Kempe would come down with speed and fire one top shelf for his twenty sixth of the year to cut the lead in half. The Canucks would come back with some zone time but the Kings would come back and D Petey would make a great play stopping the rush and they would clear a little later. The Kings would come back and get great chances with Trevor Moore missing an open net with the chance to tie the game. Off a draw the Kings would pressure but the Canuckw would get it out off a Garland kick and after he grabs a new stick he would battle and win against two Kings to help the Canucks waste time. The Kings would come back and get good pressure and every time the Canucks cleared they would come back and off a shot from the point would be tipped in by Warren Foegele and in. The Canucks would challenge for goalie interference on the play and after the review it would be unsuccessful and the Kings would go to the powerplay. In my opinion, it was a horrible challenge. After starting in their own zone the Kings setup but the Canucks would clear. They would come back and set up and get a shot on goal that Lankinen would save. Off the draw Byfield would shoot one wide and it would go down the ice. They would set up again and Trevor Moore would try to jem one in but Lankinen would hold. The draw would come out of the Canucks zone and the penalty would end and Chytil would come down and almost bury one as it would slip past Rittich and hit the post and sit in the crease until it was cleared. The Kings would push with some chances that Lankinen would keep out of the net. Play would continue with the Canucks getting a good push led by Sherwood but the period would ultimately end in a 2-2 tie sending it to overtime.
The kings would start with the puck but the Canucks would get it back but would quickly lose it and Fiala would come down on a breakaway and after a great defensive play by O’Conner would get called for tripping sending the Kings to the powerplay. They would start hot and as Fiala would try for a shot it would hit Myers in the neck stopping play. I hope he’s okay. After a clear the Kings would set up and almost score as a loose puck behind Lankinen would be poked By Pettersson. He would make another defensive play and as the Kings came down Forbort would make a huge hit on Kopitar. The Canucks would make more great defensive plays and kill the penalty. The Kings would continue to hold the puck and the Canucks would finally get it back and on a great play by Chytil to get the puck and get it to Hughes. Hughes would drop it back to Garland who would walk in and bury it for his sixteenth of the year to get the 3-2 win over LA in an amazing game to watch.
