Canucks faced off against the Leafs in their last game before the Four Nations. I was not able to catch the game as I had a anniversary dinner tonight so I’ll be reviewing the highlights. Quinn Hughes would not play tonight making It his fourth game in a row. The Game started fast and quick I licked the Tempo and thought the Canucks look strong. The Leafs did come out with some chances that were stopped by Demko. Both Joshua and Chytil had great chances, but they didn’t find the back of the net. Later after D Petey had two shots from the line Myers put one on that was steered wide. Simon Benoit went to grab a puck in the Corner and he was laid out by Pettersson and he would take the puck pass it to the blueline where Forbort would put one on goal that would be steered wide but after a steal by Pettersson he would pass to Forbot who would give it back, During that Hronek would charge the net and go unnoticed by the Leafs and Pettersson would feed him with a Beautiful pass that he would put home for his third of the season to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead. Both teams would continue to put the pressure getting chances with Matthews getting a one-tee and Nylander getting a chance. Pettersson would hit the post on a sharp angle chance. A little later Hoglander would draw a crosschecking penalty, and Myers would get it as the Refs hand is up and shoot it from the point and the rebound would pop out to Aman who almost puts it in but its stopped by Woll and the Canucks go to the powerplay. The Canucks wouldn’t get anything on the powerplay and the first would end 1-0 for the Canucks. I was able to catch only this period, and I liked it it was fast and there was a lot of chances both ways which is both scary and awesome depending on the team. One thing though in this period Demko left with an injury and Lankinen came into the game in relief. Hoping Demko is okay and that the break should help him recover.
The second period started with some chances for both teams the best one being a drop pass to Forbort that he hammered on goal but was stopped by Woll. Both teams would continue to get chances including a Myers post off a good set up play. The period would continue the same way with there being a great chance infront for Suter set up by Garland. Later there would be a high sticking penalty on Drew O’Conner that would send the Leafs to the Powerplay late. With 20 seconds left the Leafs would put on the pressure and making great passes and with Marner trying to set up Knies infront it would be intercepted and Marner would grab it back and throw it to Matthews who would put it wide. Of the boards OEL would grab it and give it to Morgan Rielly who would score his sixth of the year off a wrist shot tying the game with 5 seconds to go in the second. Sorry for the short period there the highlights were a lot of low danger chances. Other then the goal against I liked what the Canucks did and they looked very great on offence.
The third would start with a quick whistle. A little later Chytil would have a nice chance in the slot that would be stopped by Woll. Close to five minutes in off a draw D Petey would ring the post on a shot from the point and Woll would stop the rebound. Halfway through a OEL high sticking penalty Boeser would get a close chance set up by Garland and the Canucks would get it back and cycle it to Chytil who would find Boeser in the slot and wrist it home past a screened Woll for his eighteenth of the season to retake the lead for the Canucks. Late in the Period with the Leafs on the powerplay Matthews would send one to Nylander who would send it back and with Matthews who would shoot it at a sliding Lankinen who would make a great glove save to keep the game tied. The Leafs would continue the pressure with Tavares getting a chance but with Marners shot getting blocked the clock would run out and the Canucks would win 2-1 over the Leafs. What can I say except hell yeah three wins in a row and two against top 10 teams right now. Lankinen and Demko both look great at the same time and the Canucks new players and old are looking electric heading into the break. They continue to hold the second wildcard spot and keep close to the Kings. Hopefully they can come out of the break with this momentum and keep pushing to pass the kings.
