Canucks vs Avalanche Game Review 14/04/2025

The Canucks faced off against the Avalanche in their first meaningless game in terms of playoffs. They’ll look to send a message showing they are still a playoff team and give their younger guys more experience. The Game would start with some back and forth play with Mancini making a shifty move until the Avs would get a shot from the point that Lankinen would stop.Drew O’Conner would get a chance up close that would be stopped by Blackwood. Suter would get a nice shot on goal but Blackwood would be all over it. DeBrusk would get a shot on goal as well that Blackwood would save and the Avs would come back with a weak shot that Lankinen would stop. Later Necas would high stick Sherwood and get called for it. The powerplay would start with Hughes getting a shot on from the point and Garland would bring it back and Hughes would get it over to Boeser and his one timer would be stopped by Blackwood. The Avs would get a clear and the Canucks would come back with Hughes getting a shot on goal that would be stopped. The Powerplay would end and play would go back and forth for a bit until Samuel Girard would take a cross checking penalty on Nils Hoglander. The Powerplay would start with the Avs Clearing the puck the Canuck would get back but it would be sent down again. The Canucks would come back and set up but after a failed pass the puck would be cleared again. The Canucks would set up and get a shot but it would be blocked and sent down. The Powerpley would end as Hughes would send one for Suter in front but he would miss it and Girard would come down on a rush and his shot would get stopped by Lankinen. Off a draw Miles Wood would break into the Canucks zone with great speed and he’d try to go around Lankinen but it would be stopped. Later the Avs would come down and Lehkonen would get a great chance but Lankinen would challenge and stop it. Hronek would get a shot that would be blockered away and the Avs would get a great chance as Nishushkin would hit the post. Lankinen would make another stop off a long shot from the point. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Drew O’Conner would set up Linus Karlsson for a chance that he would put wide. Toews would get a nice shot on the rush and Lankinen would snag it with the glove. Later the Avs would get a chance after Vesey would find Wood in front on a quick shot that Lankinen would be all over. After a couple of low danger chances for the Avs Makar would get a great chance in the middle but he would miss the net and the period would end in a 0-0 tie. Better than being down I would take this especially against the Avs.

The Second would start with Makar making a break and then the Avs would get a screened shot from the point that would be stopped. Kiviranta would get a great chance in front that would be stopped. The Canucks would come back and get a shot that would be tipped with a high stick and blown down. The Avs would get a shot that Lankinen would lose the rebound but the Canucks would clear. Play would continue for a bit until Joshua would get a chance from a sharp angle that would be stopped. And then the Canucks would come in on a ruah and Sherwood would make a great move and send it in front and DeBrusk would redirect it and it would float over Blackwood and in for his twenty sixth of the year to take a 1-0 lead. Suter would get a long shot that would be stopped. Maker would make a good rush and he would get stopped. Garland would get two chances that would both be stopped. Later the Canucks would come in on a rush and Joshua would find Sherwood who would snipe it for his of the year to take a 2-0 lead. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Suter would get a shot on goal that would be stopped. Later the Avs would get a chance with Necas’s shot getting robbed by Lankinen. The Canucks would get a couple of chances with Hughes’ shots getting deflected or stopped. The Avs would get a tricky shot from the point that Lankinen would have trouble with but would make the save. Later the Avs would get a shot from the point from Coyle that would be tipped by Toews and in for his of the year to cut the lead to 2-1. Drew O’Conner would take a high sticking penalty to send the Avs to their first powerplay of the game. On the powerplay the Avs would set up and the CAnuck would get a clear. The Avs would try to set up some chances but the Canucks would get two shorthanded opportunities and would out shoot teh Avs on the powerplay. Hughes would get a shot and the period would end in a 2-1 Canucks lead. Good period for the Canucks can’t complain about a lead.

Apologies. I will go to highlights for the third. I had a not great day and needed some social time to up my spirits. The Third started with the Avalanche getting a chance as O’Conner would get a shot on that Lankinen would stop. The Canucks would come back with a shot from the point from Marcus Pettersson and the rebound would pop out to Joshua and he would put it in for his of the year to take a 3-1 lead. Later Miles Wood would skate in and send the puck in front to Jimmy Vesey and his quick shot would get stopped by Lankinen to keep this game 3-1. The Canucks would come back with Raty going between the legs for a shot that would get stopped. Later after a whistle D Petey and Logan O’Conner would get in a great fight D Petey’ first of his Career. Later the Avalanche would get a close chance as Lehkonen would hit the post and then Later the Canucks would get the empty netter as Garland would miss but then Hoglander would put it home for hsi of the year to close this game at 4-1 as that's how it would end and the Canucks would get a big statement win in a meaningless game.
