Canucks vs Hockey Club Game Review 16/03/2025

Canucks face Utah in the second game of the back to back after beating the Blackhawks 6-2 in a huge win for the team. They will be without Filip Chytil who is day to day with a concussion. The game would start with Dylan Guenther getting a early chance that would be stopped by Lankinen. Utah would get back in after the clear and get good zone time. Later the Canucks get a shot from the point by Myers that Vejmelka would save and a Garland shot would be steered aside. After a turn pver Blueger and Sherwood would come up the ice but then get caught offside after Sherwood misshandled the puck. Sergachev would get a shot on goal but it wouldn’t hit the net and Myers would clear the puck over the glass sending Utah to the powerplay. They would set low and the Canucks would get it out and hold for a bit. Utah would get back down and  a centering pass would get stuck in Marcus Pettersson and fall in front of Lankinen and he would cover. Utah would set up and get a shot from Guenther that would ring out of the zone and on the entry they would be offside. After a puck out of play Utah would win the draw and get a couple of chances but Lankinen would stand tall and after a few pokes after the whistle and Vancouver would respond and there would be two roughing penalties for both teams. Canuck would kill the penalty and play would go back and forth for a bit until Pius Suter Would get a good chance that Vejmelka would save and then Garland would get two chances but the puck would stay out. After Petterssons shot would be blocked he would make a great defensive play to stop a rush. Later on a rush for Utah former Canucks Ian Cole would get a shot that Lankinen would see all the way and there would be more rough stuff after the whistle. Play would go back and forth for a bit until the would be incdental minors called on Guenther and Forbort. Utah would get a long shot that Lankinen would stop and the CAnucks would take over from there and get two good chances but wouldn’t score Utah would come back but wouldn’t get anything out of it. Play would go back and forth as the 4 on 4 would end and Hughes would get a shot on goal that would be stopped. After a quick 150 foot regroup Utah would get a chance and the rebound would pop out but Lankinen would make the save. Off the draw Olli Maata would skate around the zone throw it in front and Hronek would make a good play to stop the scoring chance. Canucks would get a chance with Hughes getting a shot that would just go wide. Later Joshua would take a cross checking penalty behind the play but Utah would get a roughing penalty in the scrum after the whistle and it would be 4 on 4 again. Nothing would come of the 4 on 4 and the period would end in a 0-0 tie in a decent period for ther Canucks pretty even except in the shots but i think Utah had a little bit of a better period. 

The Second period would start with the 4 on 4 play going back and forth with Olli Maata getting a chance that would get deflected and on the reentry Carcone would get to the net and Dylan Guenther would score the rebound but it would be waived off. A little bit later on a dump and chase Crouse would hook Mancini and would get called sending the Canucks to their first powerplay of the game. Off the draw Utah would get it out and down, the Canucks would come back and set up with Hughes shooting one on goal and it would trickle past Vejmelka off the hand of Sergachev and in for his sixteenth of the year to take a 1-0 lead. Canucks would get good zoen time off a icing call and play would go back and forth after for a bit until the Canucks would come down 3 on 2 and Boeser would get a shot that Vejmelka would save. Hughes would get a shot from the point that would be stopped. Later Keller would get a chance off a redirected shot but he would put it wide. Keller would get another chance with a shot from afar through traffic but it would get stopped by Lankinen. Later Conor Garland would come in and throw it to Suter who would wait then shoot on goal and Vejmelka would make the save. After two missed nets Utah would get in and the puck would be sent in front by Bjustad and Stenlund would bury his tenth of the year to tie the game. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Keller would get a sharp angle shot on goal that would be stopped. Later Cooley would throw one to the crease but nothing would come of it. Nick Schmaltz would come in and get a shot on goal that Lankinen would save and the rebound would be cleared. Canucks would come in 4 on 3 and DeBrusk’s shot would be stopped. Play would continue until the end of the period and it would end in a 1-1 tie. Utah had a better period the Canucks are getting tired and they need to roll all lines. 

The third would start with Logan Cooley would hold Pettersson and it would send the Csnucks to the powerplay. Utah would clear off the draw and then again off the reentry. The Canucks would set up after a misqueue by Utah and Pettersson would shoot but miss the net. The next chance would be for Garland but he couldn’t put it on net and Boesers shot would miss the net. As the powerplay would end Garland would get a shot on goal that would be stopped. Later Keller would get a chance that woul be put over the net. A bit after a shot from the point would go off Lankinen right to Logan Cooley and he would put it in for his eighteenth of the year to take a 2-1 lead. Canucks would com back with a shot from the point that would be stopped by Vejmalka. Dakota Joshua would get the puck to the crease and Suter would make it harder for Vejmalka to cover. Off a draw Hughes would get a shot from the point that would be stopped. Play would continue until Dylan Guenther would shoot one off a pass from Cooley and Lankinen would make the save. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Keller would highstick Boeser and the Cancuks would go to the powerplay for four minutes the third time. The powerplay would start with the Canucks setting up and cycling untill a pass was intercepted and cleared. Tthey would get back and Myers would get a shot and Vejmalka would make a great save and the Canucks would get it back and get it to Hronek and he would shoot into the chest of Vejmelka. Alex Kerfoot would get down and waste time and the Cancuks would come back and set up in the fianl minute of the powerplay. Pettersson would walk in and shoot but Vejmelka would make the glove save. The powerplay would end with the Canucks not getting any goals. Play would continue until Logan Cooley would get a shot and the rebound would pop out but be cleared by Vancouver. The Canucks would continue to have trouble getting the puck in the zone and they would have to wait too long to pull the goalie but they would but would struggle to set up fully and Keller would put his twenty fourth of the year in the empty net and take a 3-1 lead and they would go on to get the win and Vancouver would lose out on 2 important points and would end up being tied with St.Louis for the last wildcard spot. But I will give the Canucks credit as they were tired and looked good in the first half.
