Canucks vs Jets Game Review 18/03/2025

The Canucks face off against the Winnipeg Jets tonight looking for a big upset to push towards the playoffs.they are still without Filip Chytil who is out on concussion protocol and Conor Garland who is out with an injury. D Petey would be back for his first game since the Zary incident. The game would start with a shot from Colin Miller that would be stopped by Lankinen. Later Hoglander would get a shot that would be stopped in the same zone time he would send one to Hronek and his shot would be stopped. Later Niederretier would get a chance that would be stopped and on the breakout and after Linus Karlsson took the hit to make the play to get the puck to Blueger he’d drop it to Hughes who would pass to O’Conner who would one tee it home for his ninth of the year to take a 1-0 lead. Later the Jets would have the puck in the Canucks zone and a rebound would pop out to a wide open Kyle Conner who would get robbed by Lankinen who would also stop the rebound to keep the Canucks on top. Play would continue until Hellebuyck would give the puck away and Lekkermakki would have a wide open net and Hellebuyck would come back and make the save WOW. Later Myers would get a chance that would be stopped by Hellebuyck. Boesers shot would be blocked and Hoglander would whack at the loose puck but couldn't put it on goal. Later Perfetti would get to the net and Lankinen would make the pad stop. The puck would be loose in front of Lankinen and he would cover. Winnipeg would get many chances but wont hit the net. After some zone time for the Canucks, the Jets would come down on a 3 on 2 Ehlers would cut to the middle and shoot one past Lankinen for his twenty second of the year to tie the game 1-1. Later on a rush Elias Pettersson would shoot a sharp angle shot and it wouldn’t go in but on the play Boeser would be tripped. The Canucks would get a chance on the delayed penalty but the Jets would touch the puck and the Canucks would get the first powerplay of the game. The powerplay would start with the Canucks having to regroup the would set up and after a Lekkermakki one tee and a tip shot miss Boeser would tip a Hughes shot past Hellebuyck for his nineteenth of the year to retake the lead for the Canucks. With less than ten seconds left it would be Boeser to Petey to Boeser to Hoglander and in for Hoglander’s sixth of the year to take a 3-1 lead and that’s how the first period would end. Perfect period for the Canucks can’t get better than that.

The second period would start with back and forth play for four minutes until the Canucks would have extended zone time and they would get a couple of chances with tired Jets players but wouldn’t be able to capitalize. Ehlers would get a shot that Lankinen would stop.Later after a dump in by Pettersson DeBrusk and Demelo would crash into the board and Demelo would go head first leaving him hurt on the ice. The Jets would get into the Canucks zone and a shot from the point that would go behind Lankinen and Iafallo would put it home for his eleventh of the year to cut the lead to 1. Play would continue for a bit until  Later the Jets would get two deflected chances that wouldn’t go in and a rebound for Schieffle that Lankinen would save. Ehlers would ring one of the posts a little later. A bit after the Canucks would get a good forecheck and Boeser would send it to the point and after a shot from Marcus Pettersson Boeser would whack in the rebound for his second of the game and twentieth of the year to extend the lead to 4-2. Off a draw the Canucks would get into the zone and Sherwood would send it in front and Pius Suter would put it home for his nineteenth of the year for a 5-2 lead. A shot from the point would give Lankinen trouble but it would stay out. Lekkermakki would get a chance and Linus Karlsson would get one Later but Hellebuyck would keep it out. Off a draw Hronek would highstick Vilardi and the best powerplay in the league would get a crack at the fifth best PK in the league. The Canucks would get it out right away. Jets would get in and the Canucks would get it out and the Jets would get caught offside. The powerplay would go great until Blueger would accidentally put the puck over the glass for a 17 5 on 3 for the Jets. Canucks would win the draw and set up but the Canucks would defend good enough to get Hronek on the ice they would clear twice and Sherwwod would get a breakaway and gets a shot that Hellebuyck would save and the period would end in a 5-2 Canucks lead wasn’t a good period till they scored twice and then it was a great one.

The third would start with the Jets still on the powerplay they would set up and get three chances that Lankinen would stop. The Canucks would kill the penalty off. After a Demelo shot would go out of play the Canucks would come back with a chance that Hellebuyck would hold. The Canucks would get a 2 on 1 and Boeser’s shot would be blocked and go out of play. Later Morrisey would throw a hit on Lekkermakki that Joshua would take exception to but didn’t want to take a penalty. The Canucks would come down on a 3 on 2 two and Sherwoods drag shot would get stopped. Play would continue for a bit until Pettersson and Hoglander would come down on a 2 on 1 and after a give and go Pettersson’s shot would be stopped by Hellebuyck. The Blueger Karlsson and O’Conner line would have a good shift and then the Jets would come back with a chance that would just stay out. With two minutes and twenty seconds to go the Jets would pull the goalie. They would get a couple of chances in a row but they would all stay out and the Canucks would try to set up Boeser for the hatrick but he’d miss the net. The Jets would not be able to set up and Hoglander’s shot would hit down with a highstick and the Cancusk would ice later. With 2 seconds left in the game Pius Suter would bury the empty netter for his twentieth of the year for the Canucks 6 of the game and they would win 6-2 over the best in the west. What a great game for the Canucks especially on the Canucks for kids telethon night this was the win the Canucks needed.
