The Canucks face the Stars in their second game after the deadline. Still no Quinn Hughes whos still out with an injury. The game would start with the Stars applying some pressure and the Canucks would come down on a 2 on 1 and Pettersson would shoot and hit the post. The Canucks would pressure with some good hold by D Petey but they wouldn’t get any chances. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Marchement would skate up the ice and get a good shot off that Lankinen would glove. Later O’Conner would lose the puck on the entry and when he tried to poke the puck away he would trip Bishel and send the Stars to the powerplay. The Canucks would do a good job on the penalty kill early on but the Stars would set up and a shot that would pop out for a rebound would cause trouble and they would get it out and keep shutting the powerplay down. After the powerplay would end the Canucsk would come down and Garland would get a shot on that would be stopped by DeSmith. The Stars would have some zone time with Myers' stick getting stuck in the boards and Back getting a shot on that Lankinen would stop. The Play would go back and forth with both teams getting shots but no big chances. The Canuck would get a chance with Marcus Pettersson getting a pass from DeBrusk and skating in and putting a backhand on goal that would be stopped. Chytil would break in later but would be shut down by the Dman and later Lekkermakki would draw a holding call sending the Canucks to their first powerplay. The Canucks would lose the puck and the Stars would shoot it out of play. The Stars would ice the puck and the Canucks would struggle to enter and gain control. The Second unit would get control but wouldn't get a good chance and the powerplay would end. Later after a whistle both teams would get into a scuffle with Hoglander being the center of it. At the end of it the Stars would get a powerplay. The Canucks would clear off the draw and again on the entry. The Stars would get the puck in but would waste time with a battle and when they got the puck out and to the line the shot would deflect out of play. The Stars would set up and the Canucks would steal and go for a 2 on 2 that would be defended. The penalty would end and the Canucks would get some chances with the best one being Marcus Pettersson looking for a tip but he wouldn’t get one and the period would end in a 0-0 tie. I liked that period for the Canucks and they stopped the red hot stars powerplay twice and had some good chances.
The second would start with some back and forth play until the Stars would come in and Granlund almost put it home but it would stay out. The Stars would get some zone time but the Canucks would hold them and get a chance that would be stopped. Play would go back and forth with the Canucks getting some low danger chances. Later the Stars would get in the zone and after a bit of cycling a shot from the point by Harley would squeak past Lankinen for Harley’s twelfth of the year to take a 1-0 lead. The Canucks would come back and get a shot but the rebound would be taken by the Stars. The Stars would come back and set up but wouldn’t get a shot on. Later O’Conner would get a chance and then Chytil would get one and a rebound but it would stay out. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Bischel would get a shot that would be stopped by Lankinen. The Canucks would come down and get good zone time ending with Forbort shooting one past DeSmith for his first of the year and first as a Canuck to tie the Game. Play would continue with Kiefer Sherwood getting a rush but couldn’t get the puck to his forehand and it would be poked away. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Blackwell would try to split the defence and would draw a tripping call sending the Stars to their third powerplay of the game. They would be able to set up but with good defence by the Canucks would get it out they would come back and get a shot that would be stopped and the Canucks would clear. After a Canucks clear Bourque would get a chance that would miss the net and the Canucks would clear. The powerplay would end and Lankinen would make a glove save off a shot from afar. Off the draw a shot would come from the point and it would go off Lankinen’s glove to Granlund who would bury it for his sixteenth of the year to take a 2-1 lead. Duchane would put one on goal that would be stopped and the period would end in a 2-1 Dallas lead. The Canucsk didn’t have the best period but they are still in the game they could come back.
The third would start with the Canucks getting a chance with a scramble in front of the net that wouldn’t find its way in. play would continue with the Canucks getting good zone time and it would end in Hoglander drawing an interference call sending the Canucks to their second powerplay. Blackwell would make a good play to clear the puck off the draw. Tha Canucks would set up with a shot from Hronek and the Stars would clear after the save. The Canucks would struggle to enter with getting caught offside. The Stars would clear and the powerplay would end at the same time as a Myers shot would be stopped by DeSmith. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Boeser would fire one from the point and get another chance that DeSmith would save. Later Dallas would come down with Duchane sending one to Robertson who redirects past Lankinen for his twenty-eighth of the year to extend the lead to 3-1. The Canucks would come down and Teddy Blueger sent a pass over to Joshua but DeSmith would challenge and make the save. Later Tyler Myers would take a holding call sending the Stars to their fourth powerplay. My Telus glitched and I missed the first half of the powerplay but Duchane would walk in and shoot one that would be stopped. At the end of the powerply the Canucks would come down and get a good chance with Suter and Blueger causing a scramble and later a shot from Chytil would be steered aside. Joshua would come in and make a great play and the puck would come back to the blueline with D Petey taking a shot that hits the post and stays out. Play would continue until Sherwood would put one in front and hoglander would knock it in with his hand by accident and the goal wouldn’t count. The Canucks would pull the goalie and would enter the zone and set up but it would come out and Rantanen would put it home for his twenty-ninth of the year to take a 4-1 lead and seal the game for the Stars. The game would end that way as the Stars would come out on top in a game I think the Canucks didn’t look bad in but they could’ve been better and a few ounces could’ve changed the game.
